How to Design Perfect Packaging Colors?

Whether it is environmental space design or product space design, the application of color is extremely wide, involving almost every aspect of social life. The design of packaging color not only adds beauty to the appearance of the product, but also introduces the characteristics of the product through visual language, establishes and stabilizes the market position of the product, attracts consumers’ desire to buy, and thus achieves the effect of enhancing sales.

The correspondence between color and product

For example, the packaging of food products, cakes and snacks are mostly used gold, yellow, light yellow, so as to give the impression of aromatic assault; tea, beer, wine packaging etc. are mostly used red or green, symbolizing the richness and aroma of tea; tomato juice, apple juice are mostly used red, concentrating on the natural properties of the item. Although some packaging from the main color does not look like the above-mentioned color with similar properties of goods, but a closer look, as a professional designer designed by the product packaging design screen is present, the point of view symbolizes the color block, color point, color line or the concentration of content highlighted by the color.

The contrast between color and color itself

The contrast between color and color is the most easy to show in many commodity packaging, but very difficult to grasp. These contrasts, generally have the following aspects: that is, the contrast of color shades, the contrast of color weight, the contrast of color points, the contrast of color simplicity, the contrast of color elegance, and so on.

A good packaging pattern needs to be expressed through the contrast of different colors. These colors are essential components of the entire packaging pattern, and often some patterns are a clever combination of different colors. Therefore, in the process of studying packaging design, if you do not pay attention to the contrast relationship between color and color, there is no way to design a good packaging pattern.

The basic hues of color composition

Color is the most distinctive and sensitive visual element in expressing the overall image of goods. Packaging and decoration design expresses all kinds of characteristics of goods through the symbolic and emotional characteristics of color, which is composed of 3 basic elements of hue, lightness and purity, through which the 6 most basic hues are formed.

For example, pharmaceutical products are suitable for packaging with white-based text patterns, indicating clean, sanitary, reliable efficacy; cosmetics are commonly used in soft mid-tone, indicating elegant and high quality; food packaging in warm tones, to have a distinctive rich color, highlighting the freshness of food, nutrition and taste; wine packaging is suitable for light-colored, indicating the fragrance and mellow; children’s products packaging commonly used bright and eye-catching solid color, in line with the psychology of children.

As a whole, the color of commodity packaging needs to pay attention to the following points:

1) The color should fully reflect the product personality and functional characteristics, suitable for the aesthetic interests of the product’s consumer market;

2) Color needs to achieve overall balance, contrast, coordination and unity;

3) The display effect of visual expression includes the natural color aesthetics of the commodity packaging material.
